There are indeed many who never fired a shot in anger or, as you noted, had a ship named for them.  Nonetheless they have inextricably been woven into the fabric of our Navy, leaving their heritage behind in the form of those they mentored and raised to take their place.  That is what will endure, not some cobbled up &quot;creed&quot; pieced together by a &quot;troll&quot; (as so aptly put) and is what we should strive for, be we active, reserve or yes, even retired...
