Every time that the media brings us the story of parents/children, or husbands/wives, or multiple siblings serving in close proximity to each other or together, I am reminded of the 5 Sullivan brothers.

Thank you for reminding us what the families must also sacrifice, and that they do so without complaint.

I visited DD-537 when I was in Buffalo this past March. She's nicely preserved and has a very well done display on the Sullivan brothers as well as the rest of the Sullivan family, which maintained a relationship with the vessel throughout her career. She and the other two ships (the abovementioned CG-4 and submarine Croaker, SSK-246) and the rest of the museum are well worth a visit.
